Good
to Know
In
the 1960’s a center was founded in Big Sur, USA where the
Esselen Indian Tribe once lived. The center, the Esalen® Institute,
was created to help people explore their potential esalen®
Institut.
Well-known
bodywork therapists, philosophers and psychologists met here
and contributed their knowledge and, as a result, various methods
such as classic massage, shiatsu, Feldenkrais, polarity, cranio-sacral
therapy and elements from Trager bodywork grew together and
formed the esalen® massage.
This
holistic approach unites the body with the mind and the soul.
It is a skillful way of touching based on specialized knowledge
and an attentive, client-specific accompaniment on his “journey
to himself.”

The
Art of Touching
The basis is the classic Swedish massage with oil. Depending on
the needs of the client I also include various elements in my work
such as long, sweeping strokes along the entire length of the body,
stretching, deeper structural work, gentle swaying motions for loosening,
and energetic balancing. Esalen® massage
is directed toward inner knowledge. The body stores emotional memories;
touch awakens these memories. Esalen®
massage considers the source for change to be more in the stored
knowledge of the body than in the kneading of muscles. Through esalen®
massage it is possible to activate self-healing powers in the body.
If the memories become conscious, the mind can release the tension
that causes pain or discomfort. That is why relief is noticeable
on an energetic and emotional level as well as in the physical body. |
